Anyone interested in volunteering to be a coach, assistant coach, or team manager for the coming Spring and Fall seasons must register through the unique TeamSnap link created by the Club for each season.
All coaches and team managers registered with the Glen Rock Soccer Club, if they haven't completed them already, are required to attend the Rutgers SAFETY clinic and complete a Borough of Glen Rock background check before they can step on the field as a GRSC coach. The Club will reimburse all coaches for the cost of the SAFETY clinic and pays the town directly for the cost of the background check. Additional requirements apply to travel team coaches. Information on each of these requirements is outlined below.
1) Rutgers SAFETY Clinic: The Rutgers SAFETY (Sports Awareness for Educating Today's Youth) Clinic is a three-hour program that meets the "Minimum Standards for Volunteer Coaches Safety Orientation and Training Skills Programs" and provides partial civil immunity protection to volunteer coaches under New Jersey's "Little League Law." No one can coach any sport in Glen Rock if they do not attend the SAFETY class and/or supply GRSC with a copy of the certification card. Classes are about $45 and held online or at various local locations throughout the year. Dates, locations, and registration information on all SAFETY classes can be found here: https://youthsports.rutgers.edu/courses/. Check the SAFETY page often since classes are added frequently.
NOTE: Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many SAFETY classes are also offered online.
Once attendance is complete, please obtain and save:
-- a copy of the SAFETY certification card received at the end of the class and email to GRSC's Registrar at email@example.com.
-- a receipt for the SAFETY class since GRSC will reimburse registered coaches for the cost. Email a copy of the receipt for reimbursement along with the address to which to send the reimbursement to GRSC's Treasurer at firstname.lastname@example.org.
If a registered coach already has the SAFETY certification (i.e. from another youth sports organization), they will only need to email a copy to GRSC's Registrar at email@example.com.
2) Background Check: This is required by the Borough of Glen Rock before anyone can coach with GRSC. Once submitted, it will not need to be completed again. The background check form needs to be emailed, dropped off or mailed to the attention of Johnny Fabrazzo, Glen Rock's Director of Parks and Recreation, at firstname.lastname@example.org or One Harding Plaza, Glen Rock, NJ 07452.
Registered coaches will not hear back from the town unless they need to supply more information to complete the background check. There is no cost to registered coaches for the background check.
The downloadable form to submit can be found here.
Information on the background check can be found here.
If a registered coach has already completed the background check (i.e. with another sports organization in town), they will only need to email GRSC's Registrar at email@example.com to let the Registrar know that the background check has been completed. The coach's name will be cross-checked against the town's master list for confirmation.
3) Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA) Class (recreational traveling team coaches only): PCA is a national non-profit organization with the mission of creating a positive, character-building youth sports environment that results in "better athletes, better people." The PCA is required by GRSC's recreational travel league, the Northwest Bergen Soccer Association (NWBSA). Every coach of a GRSC recreational traveling team must attend a 90-minute PCA class prior to the start of each season. The Club will provide all coaches with class availability details when they become available each year.
NOTE: Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the PCA class requirement for recreational travel coaches has been suspended until further notice.
Questions? Please contact the Club at firstname.lastname@example.org.
All teams will need parent coaches. Coaches must possess a minimum NJ Youth Soccer State Certificate (formerly the NJYS "F" Certificate) and complete a background check.
The State Certificate is a 6-9 hour course offered regularly by NJYS.
