COMPETITION DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM for all 1st and 2nd Graders
The Glen Rock Soccer Club is excited to re-introduce our Competition Development Program - an OPTIONAL program exclusively for 1st and 2nd graders already registered for the Club's fall 1st or 2nd grade clinic programs.
-- What is the Competition Development Program? This optional program entails one additional practice session per week for 1st and 2nd grade boys and girls in addition to their regular Sunday clinic. Players will practice with a professional trainer each week who will introduce players to new soccer skills and tactics, and help improve existing skills and players' understanding of the game of soccer.
Based on each team's performance, skill level, and player availability, the goal of the teams is to participate in one or more small mini soccer tournaments called festivals.
-- When and Where are the Practices? The boy's team will practice Tuesdays after school from 4-5pm starting September 10, 2024 and the girl's team will practice Thursdays after school starting September 12 2024 from 4-5pm. All practices will take place on the Lower Faber artificial turf and grass fields.
-- How much does it cost? The Competition Development Program is $75 in addition to the standard registration fee.
-- Who is Eligible? Any 1st or 2nd grade player currently registered for either the 1st or 2nd grade weekend clinic programs with Glen Rock Soccer Club this fall.
-- How Many Teams/Players will there be? There will be at least one boys team and one girls team. Each team will have a maximum of 14 players. Team registrations are first come, first served. If there is enough interest, we will consider adding additional teams.
-- What is the Commitment? The Club expects players to participate in all or most sessions for the entire season. While we realize and absolutely understand that things come up and players will miss an occasional extra practice, players who habitually miss the extra practices will be asked to withdraw from the team so a player on the wait-list can join and participate. A full squad of players each week makes for a much better practice session. We would also want as many players as possible to attend any soccer festival.
-- You mentioned Soccer Festivals above. What are those? Soccer festivals are small mini-tournaments. Teams play 4 v 4 against teams from other clubs. At each festival, teams will play four, 20-minute games in a two hour period. The festivals we may participate in are all on Saturdays and the times are currently TBD. The festivals in which we would participate are in October.
-- Questions? Please contact us at glenrocksoccerclub@gmail.com.
-- Children in grades 3 - 12 join recreational travel teams and play games against other towns in northwest Bergen County while continuing to develop skills and tactics.
-- There are no tryouts to participate on a GRSC recreational travel team and all players are guaranteed to play at least half of every game.
-- Players may "play up" into the next age division, but cannot "play down" if they have aged out of a division.
-- All teams have a midweek practice and weekend game.
-- Midweek practice sessions for 3rd - 12th grade recreational traveling teams will be run by professional trainers from United Soccer Academy. Trainers will also attend several weekend games for all teams.
Equipment
-- Every player receives a GRSC traveling team jersey and socks. Coaches are supplied a team equipment bag including soccer balls, cones and first aid kit. Players keep a team soccer ball at the end of the season.
-- All players must wear shin guards and black shorts.
-- Soccer cleats are optional but strongly recommended. The turf will be wet after rain, morning dew, and melting frost. Cleats help prevent players from slipping.
Practices
All practices are run by professional trainers. Teams have one practice each week and each session is 90 minutes. Practice day and time will depend on the individual team. Practice sessions start the week of September 2, 2024 and run though the week of November 11, 2024.
